The story goes on like this - “PD Sudhir Kohli is in Nepal because of his one important assignment. He has to deliver Payal Basra, daughter of his rich client Paramjeet Basra safely to her father. She ran from the house with a boy, but now he now got hold of her. But meanwhile one fine night he found out a dead body in his hotel room. A man was murdered and lying on the floor, whose name was Sevio Desilva. A lady is behind him, who also called herself wife of the dead man Nicole Desilva. Police team led by Ins. Taranath Visural is behind him, since he’s murder suspect, though it’s not confirmed and look like something else has happened. One more guy named Mister Lobo is behind him. Why? Because it was knows that that person Sevio owns a very valuable antique idol of Krishna ‘Krish’ and he came here to meet Sudhir. Sevio worked for Lobo, and stole the idol from the antique collection of mafia boss Antonio Wang, but instead of handing it over to him, he hides it and came to meet Sudhir. Now where’s that Krish is, and what else is going to happen, who killed Sevio, and how does Sudhir came out of this game is what all the crux of the story.

A guy Parmeet Mehra was killed. He use to roam in nights looking for girls, so that he could take her and enjoy her, but one night, he picked up a girl from the famous street and got killed. That girl gave him a chocolate which is having an Arsenic capsule inside it, and he died instantly. She kissed her, gave prints of LoReal Cherry Red Lipstick and went. A guy Anurag Joshi saw that lady from back, and to him she looked like some lady who lived in the same colony and is a call girl, named Ekta Shukla .Vivek Agashe and police start investigation, and got her in remand. Then one more murder happened. A poor guy John Pablo was killed in the same fashion, again Anurag Joshi happened to saw the suspected murderer from back, and she looks like another girl named Romila Jolly , but when the 3rd murder was about to happen, police was following the murderer and hence they were able to find the real motive and the real murderer who is doing all this.

हर अपराधी के बारे में कहा जाता कि वो अपने अपराध का कोई न कोई सुराग जरूर छोड़ता है. लेकिन वो ऐसा अपराधी था जिसने अपने अपराध का कोई भी सुराग नहीं छोड़ा था. “क़त्ल का सुराग” सुधीर कोहली उर्फ़ द लकी बास्टर्ड उर्फ़ द फिलोस्फर डिटेक्टिव, सीरीज का ९ वां उपन्यास है जो कि दिसम्बर १९९३ में प्रकाशित हुआ था| सर सुरेन्द्र मोहन पाठक साहब के क्रोनोलोजिकल उपन्यासों की श्रेणी में इसका स्थान १९० वां है| यह सुधीर सीरीज के उपन्यासों का वो दौर था जब पाठक साहब इस किरदार को लेकर बहुत कम कहानियां लिखा करते थे| सन १९९० में पाठक साहब ने इसी सीरीज में “आखिरी मकसद” उपन्यास लिखा था, जिससे यह पता चलता है की लगभग 3 साल बाद यह उपन्यास पाठकों के हाथ में आया था| इस तीन साल के वक्फे में पाठक साहब के ११ उपन्यास प्रकाशित हुए थे| इन ११ उपन्यासों में 3 विमल सीरीज के उपन्यास थे जिनको “जहाज का पंछी” सीरीज भी कहा जाता है, वहीँ 2 उपन्यास सुनील सीरीज के और ६ उपन्यास थ्रिलर की श्रेणी में आये थे| इस कहानी में रची गयी मर्डर मिस्ट्री आपको बाँध कर रख सकती है और इसका प्रस्तुतीकरण भी शानदार है| सुधीर के अलावा जो भी किरदार नज़र आते हैं वे इस कहानी के जरूरी हिस्से लगते हैं| वहीँ इस कहानी में इंस्पेक्टर देवेन्द्र यादव सुधीर को भरपूर हेल्प करता नज़र आता है जैसे कि दोनों मौसेरे भाई हों| सुधीर जहाँ इस उपन्यास में बार-बार मर्डर सस्पेक्ट्स के दायरे में आता है वहीँ रजनी के कारण वह केस पर ध्यान केन्द्रित नहीं कर पाता| जबकि उसके पीछे दिल्ली के कई गुंडे और पड़ जाते हैं और वह केस में भागा-भागा फिरता है| इस कहानी में सुधीर का जो हातिमताई बन कर आगे आया है वह यादव ही है|
